Catapults

On Wednesday we took off up to the hall to carry out a science experiment - and have a bit of fun in the process! We were looking at forces and things that can create energy. We used an elastic band tied to a clip, which was attached to a ruler. There were four different kinds of elastic band: small, medium, large, and extra large. Our task was to try out each one and see which could send a small paper ball the furthest. To measure we used a measuring tape and we recorded each distance on our log. We had great fun trying this out and we had some interesting results. We also discussed the reasons why some paper balls went further than others. 3D shape hunt

Last week Second Class were learning about 3D shapes in Maths, so we took ourselves out into the yard to see if we could find any in the school. We found loads - can you tell us what they are? Leave a comment at the bottom if you can.

 

 

 
 
 
 
 

Aaron is famous!

Guess who we saw on the television last weekend - Aaron! He was up in Derry watching the Dubs play Derry in football. Good man Aaron!

High achievers outside school

Well done to Ciara who won the "Most improved player" award on her football team last week. Ciara plays for Parnells.

 

 

A big congratulations to Rachel in Second class and Emma in third class who took part in an All-Ireland karate competition the weekend before last. Emma came third in her age group and Rachel came second -  what a great achievement and well done girls!

New York

Last week we were learning about New York, one of the most famous cities in the world. We learned a lot of new facts about the Big Apple, as it is known, and we made a cool display of skyscrapers with these new facts displayed on the windows. Check it out!

We also did some super drawings of the New York skyline, using only our pencils and some shading. There were some really excellent efforts I think you'll agree.

Gymnastics

This month we are focusing on gymnastics as part of our Active Flag work. We have been doing a lot of work on balance and also having fun doing forward and backwards rolls!

 
 

 

Wordsearches

We love doing wordsearches in class, so needless to say when Mr Kennedy told us on Thursday that we were going to make our very own wordsearches, we were very excited. To make the wordsearch, we first decided what it was going to be about, and then we wrote down 12 words to put into it. Finally we put them into a blank wordsearch, going both horizontally and vertically. There were some great results and Mr Kennedy was delighted with the effort we put in.
